A Successful Playoff Promotion

The Utah Mammoth made waves during their first-ever appearance in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Ahead of their Game 3 matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights, team owner Ryan Smith introduced an unconventional marketing initiative, inviting local fans to trade in their Vegas-branded gear for new Utah Mammoth jerseys.

The event, held at the Delta Center, drew a massive crowd. Fans lined up around the venue long before the event began at noon. The demand was so high that within less than an hour, the organization had completely exhausted its supply of exchangeable jerseys.

The Vision Behind the Swap

Reflecting on the event, Ryan Smith explained that while the move was partially intended as a playful jab at the visiting team’s supporters, it was also rooted in respect for the Golden Knights' established presence in the league.

“Everyone thinks I’m just trolling them, but no— I mean, it’s 50% trolling. But like, I think it’s way more out of respect for how [the Golden Knights have] grown. And I think that’s part of the responsibility, to slide over and let the new group come in, similar to how someone slid over for them to come in,” Smith stated.

Supporting the Las Vegas Community

Rather than discarding the influx of traded jerseys or selling them for profit, the Utah Mammoth organization decided to repurpose the gear for a good cause. All collected Golden Knights apparel was donated back to the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation, the charitable arm of the Las Vegas hockey organization.

The foundation subsequently ensured the clothing reached those in need. According to an update from HELP of Southern Nevada, the donated items were distributed among various local nonprofits across the region, turning a creative playoff promotional event into a meaningful gesture of community support.
