Dan Hurley's fifth-ranked UConn Huskies suffered a damaging 91-84 upset loss to Creighton at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday night. The defeat, just their third of the season, severely jeopardizes their hopes of securing a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament.
Creighton, which entered the game with a modest 14-13 record, delivered its best performance of the season. The Bluejays matched UConn throughout and used a decisive 14-5 second-half run to seize control, forcing a stretch where the Huskies missed 10 of 11 shots.
Josh Dix led Creighton with 21 points and eight rebounds. For UConn, Braylon Mullins scored 25 points, but star Alex Karaban was held to a season-low two points.
The loss also opened the door for St. John's in the Big East title race after the Red Storm beat Marquette. UConn, which has now lost two of its last four games, must be nearly perfect down the stretch to reclaim contention for a top tournament seed.
