Dutch skater Jenning de Boo, the Olympic silver medalist behind American Jordan Stolz, triumphed over his rival in three out of four races to win the World Sprint Championships in Heerenveen. De Boo posted the fastest times in Thursday's 500m and 1000m, and again in Friday's 500m at the Thialf arena.

Stolz managed to win the second 1000m on Friday, but it was insufficient to overcome de Boo's lead in the combined standings for the overall title. The victory marked a Dutch double, as Femke Kok swept all four women's races.

Competition continues with the World Allround Championships this weekend, live on Peacock. Stolz is the only sprinter also expected to compete in the more distance-oriented allround event.
