NBA icon LeBron James has officially signed his contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, marking a significant transition as he heads back to the Eastern Conference. Following an eight-year tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, James entered free agency earlier this offseason.
According to reports, the veteran forward has finalized a two-year agreement valued at nearly $8 million. The contract reportedly features a player option and a 15% trade kicker. James’ decision to commit to the 76ers came roughly three weeks after the opening of the NBA free agency period.

Reflecting on his future following the conclusion of the previous season, James shared his internal process via social media:
«I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn't ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide if I still love this game. I still truly love this game, and I have more to give.»
Before ultimately choosing Philadelphia, James was reportedly pursued by several other organizations, including the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Miami Heat.

The 76ers have scheduled two preseason matchups against the Boston Celtics for October:

- October 16: Home in Philadelphia
It remains unclear whether James will see action in these specific games. Historically, his participation in preseason has varied; for instance, he sat out the 2023 preseason for the Lakers but played alongside his son, Bronny James, during the 2024 preseason. Despite playing together in Los Angeles for the past two seasons, the father-son pairing will not continue in Philadelphia. Reports indicate that agent Rich Paul has clarified that Bronny and LeBron do not represent a "package deal" and there are no current plans to have them reunite on the 76ers roster.
