Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has made a major change to his representation, firing high-profile agent Scott Boras just months before becoming a free agent. The move coincides with an ongoing legal conflict between Bohm and his parents regarding financial matters.
According to reports, Bohm is seeking the return of over $500,000 that his parents allegedly withdrew from one of his accounts. A previous lawsuit filed in March reportedly sought $3 million, with Bohm claiming fraud, allegations his parents have denied.
The issues are connected, as Bohm's parents reportedly pressured him to hire Boras back in 2020. Legal filings state Bohm made that decision under "considerable duress" from his parents, who disagreed with a financial adviser recommended by his former agent, Nick Chanock. Following the split with Boras, Bohm has now rehired Chanock.
Bohm is in his final season before free agency but is off to a slow start at the plate. Super-agent Scott Boras, in a statement, wished Bohm well and expressed gratitude for their six-year working relationship.
