Dalton Rushing does not appear to be in MLB to make friends. The Dodgers backup catcher has antagonized opponents in three straight series.
On Saturday, during a game against the Cubs, Rushing was caught on camera appearing to call Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya a "fat f" after a play at second base. Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner witnessed the incident.
On Tuesday, Hoerner confirmed on a radio show that Rushing made the comment and expressed regret for not confronting him more directly. 'I was pretty taken aback and in the middle of my at-bat. It was just kind of a strange thing to experience,' Hoerner said.
This is not the first controversy involving Rushing recently. He previously accused the Colorado Rockies of sign-stealing and was accused of saying 'f 'em' after injuring Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee. He later delivered a hard takeout slide on Giants shortstop Willy Adames.
Rushing, the Dodgers' first pick in the 2022 draft, has shown improved performance this season with a .348/.423/.848 line and seven home runs in limited plate appearances.
