A Troubling Incident at First Base
The Detroit Tigers are facing uncertainty regarding the health of Javier Báez after an unfortunate play resulted in a significant injury during the fifth inning of their 5-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves.
The incident unfolded when Braves shortstop Mauricio Dubón fielded a ground ball and threw toward first base. The throw went slightly off-target, forcing first baseman Matt Olson to reach for the ball. As Báez attempted to evade Olson's tag, he twisted awkwardly and slid into the base with his right leg trapped beneath him.
Injury Assessment and Immediate Aftermath
It was immediately evident that Báez was in severe distress. Unable to bear weight on his right foot following the play, the Tigers' medical personnel were summoned to the field. Ultimately, the veteran player had to be transported to the clubhouse via a cart.
Following the conclusion of the game, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch addressed the media regarding the situation. According to reports from the Detroit Free Press, Hinch confirmed the nature of the issue, stating:

The team confirmed that the injury involves Báez's right ankle. The infielder is scheduled to undergo diagnostic imaging on Wednesday to determine the extent of the damage.
