The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without their star closer, Edwin Díaz, for an extended period. The team announced on Monday that Díaz has been placed on the injured list due to 'loose bodies' in his right elbow, referring to fragments of bone or cartilage floating in the joint.
Díaz is scheduled for surgery to clean out the joint and is projected to return in the second half of the season. To fill his roster spot, the Dodgers are calling up pitcher Jake Eder.
Díaz joined the Dodgers this past offseason on a record three-year, $69 million contract after six seasons with the New York Mets. In 2026, he has made seven appearances, recording four saves and one blown save. His last two outings were particularly rough, contributing to an inflated 10.50 ERA.
The 32-year-old is expected to be out for about three months, with a target return after the All-Star break.
