A Steadfast Partnership
Charles Leclerc has reaffirmed his commitment to Ferrari, dismissing any speculation that he considered parting ways with the iconic Formula 1 team. Having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2016 and a core member of the race team since 2019, the Monegasque driver remains deeply loyal to the Maranello-based squad.
With 155 Grand Prix starts under his belt, including 27 pole positions and eight victories, Leclerc has recently secured a new multi-year deal that is expected to keep him with Ferrari until at least 2028.
The Logic Behind the Loyalty
While Leclerc admits that his manager, Nicolas Todt, has received inquiries from other top-tier teams, he insists that his personal desire has always been clear. He views his career decisions as a combination of deep-rooted emotional attachment and rational evaluation.
«I’ve never really considered alternatives. There have certainly been conversations, because after 10 years in this paddock you build relationships that go beyond the professional sphere. As far as I’m concerned, what I wanted to do has always been very clear.»
Trust in the Leadership and Future
A significant factor in Leclerc’s decision to stay is his working relationship with team principal Fred Vasseur. Their history dates back to Leclerc’s junior career, where they secured titles together. Leclerc believes Vasseur is the ideal leader to restore Ferrari to the top of the standings.
Beyond personal bonds, Leclerc is encouraged by the technical direction the team has taken:
- Innovation: Leclerc notes a shift in the team’s philosophy, with engineers at Maranello actively pursuing unconventional and bold technical solutions.
- Development: Despite currently trailing Mercedes in performance, the visible progress and rapid development cycle have bolstered his confidence in the team’s trajectory.
Driven by Gratitude and Ambition
Although the lack of a world championship remains a void in his career, Leclerc emphasizes that his sense of gratitude toward the team is paramount. He credits Ferrari for believing in his talent during his early career, an act of faith he does not take lightly.
«I’ve had the chance to race for the team that always made me dream,» he noted. «If Ferrari hadn’t believed in me, I don’t know if I’d be here now. Sure, I’d like more success on my resume, but I think everyone always wants something more. I hope it happens soon.»
