Emerging Details on the USMNT Selection

While the official announcement for the United States men’s national team World Cup roster is scheduled for Tuesday, internal reports have already provided clarity on several key players. According to sources, athletes were notified on Friday whether they had successfully earned a spot in head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s final squad for the tournament.

Confirmed Roster Selections

Reports indicate that five players have been confirmed for the national team, bringing a mix of experience and versatility to the roster:

  • Gio Reyna: The Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder returns to the squad despite recent injury challenges and past controversies. His tactical flexibility makes him a valuable asset for tournament play.
  • Sebastian Berhalter: Having impressed under Pochettino since his debut call-up in 2025, the Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder has solidified his place in the rotation.
  • Brenden Aaronson: The Leeds midfielder remains a key part of the group's offensive depth.
  • Mark McKenzie: The Toulouse defender provides additional strength to the backline.
  • Matt Turner: Despite losing his position as the undisputed starting goalkeeper recently to Matt Freese, the New England Revolution player has secured his spot on the roster, defying previous uncertainty regarding his status.

Notable Exclusions

The selection process has left out some prominent names, most notably Real Salt Lake’s Diego Luna and Zavier Gozo. Luna’s absence is viewed as a surprise given his frequent inclusion in team camps over the last year. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Zavier Gozo, considered one of the top prospects in MLS with significant potential for a future career in Europe, will also miss this tournament.

The Path to the Final Submission

Although the upcoming Tuesday announcement will reveal the team's direction, the list is not yet set in stone. Per FIFA regulations, final rosters do not become official until the June 1 submission deadline. This leaves a small window for potential changes. As the rules state, once the June deadline passes, updates can only be made in the event of injury or illness.
