Tributes at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway took steps to honor Busch’s contributions to motorsport on Friday by holding a moment of silence during the Carb Day festivities. Furthermore, organizers have planned a visual tribute for Sunday, where the track's pylon will be illuminated on lap 18 in memory of the driver.
Changes at the Coca-Cola 600
Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has announced significant changes for the Coca-Cola 600 to pay respect to Busch:
- The No. 8 will be temporarily retired from the team's car, which will compete with the No. 33 during the race instead.
- A tribute painting of the No. 8 has been added to the infield grass at the entrance of turn 1.
- RCR has stated its intention to preserve the No. 8 for the future, noting that it will be held until Busch’s 11-year-old son, Brexton, reaches the age to begin his own career in NASCAR.
Additionally, Spire, which acquired Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) last year, has begun incorporating the KBM logo onto trucks competing in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.
Circumstances Surrounding the Passing
Busch had been scheduled to participate in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600. However, he withdrew from the event early Thursday morning citing a “severe illness.” His family confirmed his passing later that same day. While reports noted the suddenness of his health decline, an official cause of death has not been disclosed.
