The NFL's franchise tag window is now open, marking a critical period in the offseason where teams can secure one impending free agent. While many players are eligible, the actual number tagged is often low, as seen last year when only two received the designation.

The window runs from February 17 until 4 p.m. ET on March 3. During this time, teams can tag one unrestricted free agent, binding him to the team for the 2026 season at a predetermined salary based on his position.

Projected franchise tag salaries for 2026 are substantial, led by quarterbacks at an estimated $47.242 million. Other notable figures include $28.037 million for wide receivers, $27.764 million for offensive linemen, and $14.186 million for running backs.

Several star players headline the list of potential candidates. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens, coming off a career year, is a prime target. New York Jets running back Breece Hall and Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts are also strong possibilities as their teams weigh long-term commitments.

Other notable names include Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Odafe Oweh, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, and Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III, though reports suggest Seattle may not use the tag. As of now, no players have officially received the franchise tag for the 2026 season.
