The Dallas Mavericks announced on Wednesday that star guard Kyrie Irving will not return for the remainder of the season as he continues his rehabilitation from an ACL injury. "The decision wasn't easy, but it's the right one," Irving stated. He expressed gratitude for the organization, teammates, and fans, adding, "I am looking forward to coming back stronger next season." Irving also sent a message of support to others recovering from similar injuries.

Irving's agent, Shetellia Riley Irving, emphasized to ESPN that the focus is on ensuring Kyrie returns at full strength to pursue a championship next season. The point guard has been sidelined for nearly 12 months, last playing on March 3 of the previous season.

Despite the Mavericks' run to the 2024 NBA Finals led by Irving and Luka Dončić, the team's landscape has changed. Irving, a nine-time All-Star and 2016 NBA champion, is set to enter his 15th season upon his return next year at age 33.
