Focus on the Field
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs is officially entering the fourth year of his rookie contract. This milestone makes him eligible for a potential extension, and naturally, expectations are high that he could become one of the top-compensated players at his position. However, Gibbs maintains that contract discussions are not currently his priority.
As the team undergoes voluntary offseason workouts, Gibbs emphasized that he is leaving the complex negotiations entirely in the hands of his representative and Lions General Manager Brad Holmes. When asked about his future deal, the running back remained dismissive of the speculation.
«I'm just letting my agent and Brad and all them do all that right now. I'm just worried about the team and ball,» Gibbs stated during recent media availability.
When pressed further on the matter, he reiterated his lack of concern, noting, «I don't really pay attention to all that stuff. I let my agent and Brad do all that... I just let them handle it and I just be out here.»
Embracing Life in Detroit
Looking back at his journey from Georgia and Alabama, Gibbs admitted that playing in Detroit was not something he had envisioned earlier in his life. However, his tenure with the Lions has shifted his perspective significantly.
«I love the people here. I love the sports teams here. It's just been fun overall — I never thought I'd be here in Detroit growing up, but I really like it here,» he reflected.
Given the mutual appreciation between the organization and the standout back, it is widely expected that both parties will be able to reach a mutually beneficial agreement when the time for formal negotiations arrives.
