Faria dominated the early stages of the match, putting Tiafoe on the defensive. However, the American managed to shift the momentum by clinching a crucial third-set tiebreaker. As the match progressed, Faria began to struggle with unforced errors, including two pivotal double faults in the fourth set that allowed Tiafoe to regain control.

Despite appearing fatigued himself, Tiafoe showcased superior stamina, winning the final four games of the match to seal his advancement. Reflecting on his victory, Tiafoe noted that his primary objective was to wear down his opponent:
“By all means, you gotta break this game. Hopefully, I can take his legs as the match went long, and that’s what I did,” he stated, adding that while things looked bleak early on, he felt physically strong by the end.

Tiafoe’s survival is notable given the string of upsets currently plaguing the French Open. The draw has seen significant departures, including world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and American Ben Shelton. On the women's side, reigning champion Coco Gauff also suffered a surprise exit.
With this victory, 28-year-old Tiafoe moves on to the fourth round to face Matteo Arnaldi. He now looks to build on his momentum, aiming for a second consecutive quarterfinal appearance in Paris as he continues his pursuit of a maiden Grand Slam title.
