Legendary ESPN college basketball announcer Dick Vitale announced on Monday that he has been diagnosed with cancer for a fifth time. He revealed the news via a statement distributed by ESPN.

"Today, my oncologist, Dr. Brown, informed me that my biopsy results have confirmed a diagnosis of melanoma in my lung and liver cavity," Vitale said. "I will be starting immunotherapy shortly and plan on winning this battle." The 86-year-old had undergone biopsies after scans last week revealed abnormalities.

Vitale has previously overcome four cancer diagnoses: melanoma and lymphoma in 2021, vocal cord cancer in 2023, and lymph node cancer in 2024. Through his public battles, he has helped raise over $105 million for pediatric cancer research.

After being declared cancer-free in January 2025, Vitale returned to broadcasting in a limited role this past college basketball season. In his latest statement, he expressed unwavering confidence: "I'm four for four, and I'm fully confident I'm going to make it five for five."
